India Ensures Energy Security Amid Global Tensions

Energy Supply Assurance from India's Petroleum Minister

In light of escalating tensions in major global energy supply regions, India's Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated on Sunday that the country, being the third-largest oil importer and the fourth-largest gas buyer, possesses sufficient energy supplies to meet its needs for several weeks. He emphasized that India is receiving supplies through multiple channels.

Puri shared insights on the social media platform 'X', noting, “The government has been closely monitoring the evolving geopolitical landscape in West Asia over the past two weeks.” He added, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have diversified our supply sources in recent years, and now a significant portion of our supply does not transit through the Strait of Hormuz.”

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial transit route for oil coming from West Asia, which Iran has threatened to close following U.S. attacks on its nuclear facilities.

Puri reassured, “Our oil marketing companies have supplies for several weeks, and they will continue to receive energy through various routes. We will take all necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply for our citizens.”
